Transfiguration

Margery Newcomb WILSON
Date
1934
Description

Lithograph printed on wove paper.
It is unlikely an edition was printed. Probably just one of a few impressions ever pulled.

A standing figure turns her or his face towards rays of light beaming down from the heavens. An epiphany is depicted in this composition, strongly reminiscent of Christian pictorial tradition. This one, however, doesn't explicitly refer to a diety of any sort, let alone to one specific to the Western tradition. It transcends time and place.

Very little of this artist’s work seems extant.
Signed, titled, and dated in pencil.

A short tear in both the left and right sheet edges, backed with masking tape on the left, both away from the image.
