The Cat’s Paw by Morin-Jean

This is a pure-line engraving by the very talented MORIN-JEAN (born Jean Alexis Morin, 1877-1940). It is titled “A la Patte de Chat”. While the subject evokes the very famous cabaret of Rodolphe Salis in Paris, named Le Chat Noir, this cabaret in Nantes was apparently one of a handful of places where prostitution was tolerated. The windmill is also reminiscent of Moulin Rouge. This is a beautiful composition by one of the masters of this technique.
