Title Margot la Critique
Medium Etching
Date 1854
Also titled "Une Pie". Printed on simili-japon paper. References: Beraldi 113 ii/iii, BN-IFF 39. One of 10 impressions on tan japon (described by Beraldi as "chine jauné"). There were a further 10 impressions on "vieux Hollande" and forty on white paper. Beraldi explicitly mentions these impressions on "chine" as "très belles", as this one is. Before the edition in "L'Artiste", 1858. An extremely scarce and beautiful impression as such of this famous etching. An "inky" impressions, with the full signature in the plate. The Met's impression, as a comparison, is signed only with the monogram, and is quite a bit lighter. Compared the impressions from "L'Artiste", which are printed on white papers, our print shows the bird's moodiness and the draftsmanship comes out strongly, especially in the wings.
