Title Femme Nue Cueillant des Fleurs
Medium Color linocut
Date 1962
Info
Two linocuts printed on Arches wove paper. References: Baer 1325 I, first state of three & Baer 1325III, third state of three. An extremely rare pair of Picasso linocuts, a variation on Manet's Dejeuner sur l'Herbe. Two impressions of great rarity, providing an insight into the artist working process. Both impression stamped in ink on the verso Imprimerie Arnéra Archives / Non Signé. Sheets: 24 ¾ x 17 ¼ inches. 1st: A very interesting and fine unrecorded proof printed in brown directly on paper, and with tracing paper attached. Baer records no impression in this form. The printer, Hidalgo Arnéra, used to attach a sheet of tracing paper at one edge of an impression and print on it the next state of the block. He could then wipe the ink off the tracing paper and reprint the next state in a different color ink, thus helping Picasso to decide the colors in which to print the edition. 2nd: One of three trial proofs, identical to, but before the edition of 50. Printed in three colors.
