About Armstrong Fine Art

Armstrong Fine Art is dedicated to presenting superior works of late 19th and early 20th century French art on paper. A short list of the high-profile artists we focus on includes Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse and James Jacques Tissot. We also represent several award-winning contemporary artists from Europe and America. We are located directly off Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s Gold Coast.

A print business for almost twenty-five years, Armstrong Fine Art has developed a passion for Pre-Impressionism, the Belle Époque and the Early Modern era of printmaking. Two years ago, Bernard Derroitte took over the gallery from the original owner, Richard Reed Armstrong. Bernard was trained in Art History in Belgium and Germany and has ten years of experience with the gallery. He has tailored the inventory to his specialty, turn-of-the-century fine works on paper. Since last summer he has been assisted by Jessica Dussling, who also majored in Art History. Although the gallery has consistently maintained a stock of representational art, we have begun to acquire more abstract works. We have expanded our expertise to include works from the 1920’s through 1950’s, so reflecting the broad range of artistic accomplishments of the twentieth century.

Printmaking at the turn of the last century was the true renaissance of the graphic arts. Our inventory covers a complete range, from well-known greats to lesser-known masters. Aside from the artists mentioned above, we also carry works by Felix Vallotton, Henri Riviere, André Derain, Pierre Roche, Richard Ranft, Louis Legrand, Jean-Émile Laboureur, Auguste Lepére, and Edgar Chahine, as well as many other remarkable artists. We take great pride in featuring only the very finest impressions in the best possible condition. We are known in particular for our diverse inventory of works on paper in color.

Fine prints and drawings from our gallery have been purchased by many major museums, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, just to name a few.

Holding ourselves to a high standard, we are always seeking new acquisitions and consignments to meet the strong demand of private collectors, museums, and other professionals. We also have entry to many exclusive sources and are able to fill requests for specific pieces. We acknowledge that clients’ individual requests cannot always be met by our current inventory. If you are interested in viewing our stock in person, we invite you to make an appointment and look forward to your visit.
